DC earn first win of the season

Box Score OTTAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's basketball team picked up their first victory of the 2019-20 season with a win in the nation's capital defeating the Algonquin Thunder 85-78 on Friday evening.
 
Durham was able to jump out to an early lead over Algonquin and trailed only once in the entirety of the game, with the largest lead of the game being 17 points during the second quarter when the Lords led 34-17. The name of the game on Friday night was rebounding, with the Lords securing a staggering 16 offensive boards and 28 defensive rebounds winning just shy of 60 percent of all second chance balls.
 
Bench play was also a big difference maker in the game as the Lords gained 29 points of their total via non-starters.
 
Durham will have a quick turn around as they play tomorrow afternoon against the La Cite Coyotes. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the game being streamed on OCAA LIVE.
  Nathanial Parker (Ajax, Ont.) led the Lords in his first action in the green and gold with 20 points, as well as leading the team in minutes despite starting the game on the bench.
• Sophomore Romareo Stephenson (Markham, Ont.) was on fire going 8-for-10 from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 at the line racking up 19 points, respectively.
• Kristian Charette led the Thunder with 16 points going 4-for-4 from beyond the arc.
  • Parker and Stephenson continued to shine in all parts of the game as each had seven total boards, while Parker also added eight assists.
• Tyrique Walters (Brampton, Ont.) was spreading the rock around for a total of seven assists, while also coming down with five rebounds.
• Coming off the bench for the Thunder, Ali Al-Shaher led the team with six assists.
