OSHAWA, Ont. - In their final home game to end a five-series home stand, the Durham Lords men's baseball team dropped both games of a Wednesday evening doubleheader versus the Humber Hawks.
DC opened the weeknight matchup at Kinsmen Stadium with a hard-fought 7-4 loss, before having serious trouble with the Hawks in a tough 7-1 Game 2 defeat. Humber outhit Durham by 27-10 in the two contests combined as the Lords had no answer for the Hawks bats on the evening.
Durham now hit's the road for a long string of away games, beginning in London this Saturday, Sept. 21 against the Fanshawe Falcons. DC will be looking to pick up the important road wins with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
Game 1
• Second-year outfielder
Reagan Manley (Peterborough, Ont.) continued his strong season at the plate with a 2-for-2 night, adding a walk, while scoring an RBI and crossing the plate twice himself.
• Hawks catcher Jeff Siemms was a tough out for the Lords going 3-for-3 in Game 1, cashing in three RBI.
Game 2
• The Lords offence was stymied by Hawks pitching as only four Durham batters picked up a hit, led by a 1-for-2 outing at the plate for
Jordan D'Amico (Courtice, Ont.) who crossed the plate for the lone Lords run.
• Five different Hawks picked up an RBI in the decisive Game 2 victory.
Game 1
• DC starting pitcher
Jake Legros (Oshawa, Ont.) went six innings, allowing 14 hits and five earned runs, while striking out two in the loss.
• Braden Taylor earned the win for the Hawks, going 5.2 innings with five hits and three earned runs allowed.
Game 2
• After a five run first inning for starting pitcher
Jake Storry (Port Perry, Ont.),
Connor May (Oshawa, Ont.) finished out the contest for the Lords going six innigs with just one earned run and six hits given up.
• Durham were unable to solve Hawks starter Corey Vandergraaf as he allowed just one unearned run in 4.1 innings, while Anthony Goddard appeared in relief pitching 2.2 scoreless innings.
