LANCERS EARN FIRST WIN OF 2020

The Lancers started the new year off on the right foot with a 3-1 win over the Fleming Knights in Belleville on Wednesday.

The first set was nearly point for point until the Knights went on a 6 point run to take the lead 13-10, forcing the Lancers to tighten up their defence. To keep themselves in the game, the Lancers delieverd a series of tough serves and key digs in the backrow to push through for a 26-24 victory.

In another close contest, the Knights held the lead from start to finish and ended with a 25-22 final.  The Lancers showed their mental capability to bounce back with the biggest point spread of the night, downing the Knights 25-18. The Lancers used their momentum to carry them through a couple mid-set lulls in the fourth set to outlast the Knights 25-22 to earn the 4 set victory.

Second year Lancer Rachel Cole had a terrific showing as libero. She provided a consistent pass on serve recieve and saved the Lancers on countless occasions with great defence and hustle.

Despite struggling from the service line, the Lancers still managed to record 16 aces on the night, 6 of which came from first year setter Megan Wheelans.

Ashley MacDonald led the team in scoring with 7 kills, 2 aces and 2 blocks for 11 points, followed by Aingele Campbell-Stewart with 10 points and Paula Bailey with 9.
