LAST MINUTE SCORE LEADS GRIZZLIES MEN’S RUGBY TO VICTORY
The Grizzlies defeated the Durham Lords 10-5 on Saturday after a penalty time try in the final moments of the game.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's rugby team wrapped up their regular season schedule when they hosted the Durham Lords at J.C. Massie Field on the Georgian College Barrie campus on Saturday afternoon.
It was a defensive battle with lots of physical play from both teams in a match that came right down to the wire.
After the two teams finished the opening half tied by a score of 5-5, the second half was a battle for position.
Georgian kept pushing and pushing, but Durham made several goal line stops to keep the game tied. In penalty time the Grizzlies were finally able to break through as Rahal Delpachitra (Sri Lanka) scored his second try of the day to give the Grizzlies a 10-5 victory.
The Grizzlies finish off their regular season schedule with a 2-1-1 record. It is the ninth consecutive season the Grizzlies have finished the regular season with a winning record, all with head coach John Daggett at the helm.
Daggett has now amassed an incredible 41-9-2 all-time record as the Grizzlies head coach since the 2012 season.
The Grizzlies will now shift their focus to the post-season which features the top four teams in the standings playing in semi-final matchups the weekend of Nov. 6/7 followed by bronze and gold medal matches the following weekend.
Details of the Grizzlies playoff match-up will be announced next week.
