Season Opener Win for the Lancers

Season Opener Win for the Lancers

The Lancers earned a big 4-0 win over the Fleming Knights in an exciting season opener at home that marked the OCAA's return to sport on campus.

Despite missing a few key players due to injury and academic commitments, the Lancers began to hit their stride and show their ability to adapt, adjust and overcome.

The home team took control early on in the game with a beautiful opening goal 11 minutes in from first year, Kennedy Bardawill (Lakefield, ON). With momentum on their side, the Lancers maintained possession and created numerous scoring opportunities until local talent, Alix Shilton scored at the 27th minute, extending the Lancers' lead to 2. Rounding out the first half, Bardawill scored off a breakaway for her second of the night. In the second half, the Lancers continued to move the ball well on offense and shut down the Knights' with tough, responsible defence. Ella Bannon, the lone veteran player on the Lancers, snuck one past the keeper after a hard fought one-on-one battle with a Knight's defender to push to a 4-0 final.

Rookie keeper Emily Mealing came in clutch for the Lancers with three key saves to secure the shutout.

The Lancers look for their second win of the season in as many games when they travel to Oshawa to take on the Durham Lords on Tuesday September 21st at 7 PM.
