OSHAWA, Ont. – Despite a scare in their opening game of their season, the Durham College women's softball team held on for a pair of victories on Saturday as they began their title defence at Durham Field.
In the opening 7-6 victory, Durham's
Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) was the winning pitcher and also walked off the game with a single in the seventh inning, driving home pinch runner
Julia Mantler (Drayton, Ont.). Black's victory was her 25
th all-time with Durham, which is the most by any Lords pitcher.
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) earned the win in the second game, also pitching a complete game to earn her fifth OCAA victory.
Durham will now host the St. Clair Saints on Sunday afternoon at 12 and 2 p.m. to wrap up their opening weekend.
Game 1
• Black and
Caleigh Coels (Duncan, B.C.) moved up the all-time hits chart for Durham College with one each. Black is now second with 71 and Coels is tied for sixth with 53.

Sarah Seifried (Drayton, Ont.) led the team going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the game.
Kaitlyn Hickey (Oshawa, Ont.) also had a great game, going 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and a triple.
• Durham was most successful in the third inning of the game, scoring four of their seven runs.
Game 2
• Hickey drove in three of Durham's five runs with an RBI triple in the second inning, her second triple of the day. She finished the day 1-for-2 with a walk.
• Durham scored four of their five runs in the second inning.
Game 1
• Black earned her 25
th win all-time at Durham College, throwing a complete game. She allowed four earned runs on nine hits and a walk, while striking out two.
• Brooke Billings took the loss for the Condors, going 6.2 innings and giving up five earned runs on 10 hits and a walk.
Game 2
• Glendinning allowed three earned runs on eight hits in her complete game victory for Durham. She struck out seven, nearing her career-high of nine, set on Sept. 28, 2017 at Seneca College.
• Emily Lush gave up 11 hits and five earned runs over six innings for Conestoga.
