Deans sets OCAA record; Baseball sweeps Seneca

RICHMOND HILL – Humber baseball (7-1, 1st OCAA) swept the Seneca Sting (2-6, 7th OCAA) Tuesday evening at Richmond Green Park. Humber's offence racked up 23 hits during the twin bill, while Brandon Deans set a new OCAA single-game record with 16 strikeouts in games.

Game One – Humber 15, Seneca 4 (5 innings)

The Hawks sent 17 batters to the dish in the first, plating 11 runners to begin the game. Jaykob Turner opened the flood gates with a two-run double, while Aidan Murphy added a two-run double of his own in his second plate appearance of the inning.

After the Sting added three runs of their own in the home half of the first, Justin Groves extended Humber's lead in the third inning with another two-run double that scored Turner and Murphy. Tyrus Bath followed that up by cashing in Ryan Brodie and Groves.

Dalton Brownlee picked up his first win of the season, allowing four runs on four hits, while striking out eight in 3.2 innings of work.

Game Two – Humber 8, Seneca 1

The story of game two was Brandon Deans, the hard throwing righty making his second career start for the Hawks. Deans was firing on cylinders and struck out the side through the first two innings. He proceeded to strike out the side in the fourth and fifth inning, as well. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Deans blew a fastball by Roberto Pagliero, recording his 16th strikeout of the game and setting a new OCAA single-game record.

Cam Hibbs came in to finish the game in the seventh inning, recording three strikeouts of his own.

Dylan White led the Hawks from the dish, picking up two doubles in the game. Ryan Brodie and Caleb Eguren finished with two RBIs, each.
