Durham claims regular season finale victory

OSHAWA, Ont. - With the final game of the regular season coming to an end, the Durham Lords men's soccer team took all three points with a 3-1 win over the Fleming Knights on Friday night.

Prior to the start of the contest the Lords honoured their graduating athletes: Devin Smith (Ajax, Ont.), Adam Rombough (Oakville, Ont.), Marco Brusco (Oshawa, Ont.), Dylan Toland (Ajax, Ont.), Nick Payne (Pikcering, Ont.), Kevon Grant (Oshawa, Ont.), Aidan Donaldson (Scarborough, Ont.), Ryan Cullen (Pickering, Ont.), Jeremy Bangala (Pickering, Ont.), and Colin Reilly (Whitby, Ont.).

The scoring started early when Joshua Lee (Ajax, Ont.) got his eighth goal of the season in the fourth minute when he tapped home a rebound from close range.

Durham got a second goal in the 34th minute when Nick Spittle (Ajax, Ont.) bagged his second goal for the Lords when his incredible curling effort found its way into the top right corner.

The Lords would eventually get a third goal in the 51st minute as Jeremy Bangala (Pickering, Ont.) sent a left-footed strike on net which made its way into the bottom right corner beating the Knights goalkeeper.

Fleming pulled one back in the 75th minute when Aaron Schaub converted from the penalty spot into the bottom left corner.

Grant picked up the win in net for DC.

A special record of note on the night, Reilly moved into first place at the end of the season, becoming the Lords all-time leader in OCAA regular season games played with 44 matches in the green and gold. With the win, Durham finish the regular season with 21 points, level with Algonquin, but sit second by season series and goal difference. The Lords will play host to an OCAA crossover game with the opponent and kick-off time to be decided.
  Overall Record: 9-2-1 (W-L-D)
Conference Record: 7-1-0

Next match: Saturday, Oct. 19 vs. TBD • (TBD – Vaso's Field)
