Big hits for DC in sweep of Fanshawe

OSHAWA, ON - Welcoming the Fanshawe Falcons to new Durham Field, the Durhan Lords women's softball team picked up a Friday night sweep after defeating the visitors 9-8 and 9-5.

The Lords bats were on fire for most of the night, registering 24 hits over the two games played. Highlighting the offensive output were a number of big hits including a walk-off single from Alexis Periera (Newmarket, ON) to win Game 1 for the Lords, and recording her second home run of the season Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) put the Lords into the lead and never looked back following a three-run jack in Game 2.

Durham will look to keep rolling as they welcome the OCAA leading St. Clair Saints to Durham Field tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 2) afternoon. In there first meeting this season the Saints walked away with a tightly contested 5-4 victory, which the Lords will be looking to avenge. First pitch of the Saturday afternoon doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
  Game 1
• Continuing her strong play from the batter's box, Nicole Mancini (Toronto, ON) went 3-for-4 in Game 1, recording three RBI and one run from the number three spot in the lineup.
• First-year outfielder Kaysa Melin (Surrey, BC) also notched three hits in the win, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs.
• Kenndi Roth led the Falcons, finishing 2-for-4, while adding two RBI and two runs.
Game 2
• Adding another highlight reel bomb to her resume, Redick drove in four RBI in the Game 2 win, going 1-for-2 with a walk and run added to her stat line.
• Melin continued to torture the Falcons on the base path, picking up a stolen base and crossing the plate three times herself on a 2-for-4 outing. 
• Roth made it two strong games in a row, registering a 3-for-4, one RBI and two run Game 2.
  Game 1
• First-year pitcher Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) went a full seven innings in the win, striking out four, while allowing 10 hits, one walk, and five earned runs.
• Falcons starting pitcher Morgan Lowry allowed 14 hits and nine earned runs in 6.1 innings, striking out six and giving up three walks.
Game 2
• Starting in the circle for the green and gold, Morgan Salter (Battersea, ON) reached double-digit strikeouts with 10 over 5 innings, conceding four earned runs and six walks.
• Appearing in relief, Redick pitched a shutout over the final two innings, striking out two, while allowing just one hit and two walks.
• Julia Smith started for Fanshawe, before being pulled after giving up three earned runs after four innings. Lowry returned to the circle but gave up another three earned runs to the Lords from Redick's fifth inning home run.
    Overall Record: 6-3 (W-L)
Conference Record: 6-2
