Durham cruises to victory over Fleming

OSHAWA, Ont. - Continuing to dominate the OCAA east, the No. 5 nationally ranked Durham College women's volleyball team defeated the visiting Fleming Knights in straight sets at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Thursday evening.

The Lords remain undefeated on the season improving to 15-0. DC made quick work of the opponents from Peterborough, outscoring the Knights 35-8 in kills and 17-5 in service aces. All together Durham needed less than 60 minutes to knock off Fleming, lifting their current winning streak versus the Knights to 16 straight victories dating back to 2012.

The green and gold now hit the road to challenge the Loyalist Lancers on Wednesday, Feb. 5. First serve for the road game is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Belleville with the game also available on OCAA LIVE.
  • Leading the team once again, Althea Boncheff (Alliston, Ont.) notched a game-high 11 points in the quick three sets, recording nine kills, one ace, and one block.
• Six more Lords recorded five or more points in the win, including seven point nights from both Haley Bickell (Winnipeg, Man.) and Karlina Domingo (Pickering, Ont.), with Bickell nailing four service aces and Domingo adding five of her own.
• Sarah Heffernan paced the Knights with nine points from three kills, one ace, and five blocks.
  • Domingo and Georgi Williams (Whitby, Ont.) split time at the setter position finishing the evening with 17 and 12 assists respectively
• Fourth-year outside hitter Allyson Terwillegar led the Lords defensively with a team-high six digs on the night.
• Fleming struggled on the offensive end, while Melyssa Aramini led the team defensively with five digs.
