OSHAWA, Ont. – A slow start on Sunday for the Durham College women's volleyball team wasn't enough to ruin their final home game of the season as the Lords composed themselves and had a straight set victory over the Canadore Panthers.
The nationally ranked Lords didn't take the lead in the opening set, until they went ahead 15-14. Canadore didn't lose their fight though as they battled back after Durham took a two-point lead to go ahead 21-20.
After a Durham timeout, they rattled off five straight points, highlighted by a set-ending ace by
Allison Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) to take it 25-21.
From there they were in the driver's seat winning 25-9 and 25-15.
Marshall added two more aces, alongside eight kills in her final home game as a Lord.
She was one of six graduating athletes recognized after the match.
Also graduating are
Madeleine Elit (Trenton, Ont.),
Lucia Kalmeyer (Oshawa, Ont.),
Shannon Dean (Whitby, Ont.),
Erinn Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) and
Madison Marsh-Collis (Pickering, Ont.).
Elit had a season-high seven kills and picked up a block against Canadore, while
Erinn Marshall also added seven kills and three aces.
Kalmeyer picked up six kills and two service aces, but Dean continued to lead her team's offence with nine kills.
All of the offence was run through
Megan Romain (Ajax, Ont.) and
Camille Lefaive (Whitby, Ont.) who finished with 20 and 13 assists respectively.
For Canadore, they had Jess Venhuizen, Morgan McDonnell and Emma Vanderlee finish with five kills apiece.
Now Durham will look to finished the regular season undefeated when the travel to Peterborough on Wednesday to face the Fleming Knights. The first serve is 6 p.m.
