The Redeemer Men's Volleyball team took on cross-town rivals, the Mohawk Mountaineers, Wednesday night in a battle for second place in the OCAA West. The Royals entered the game coming off a stellar four-set victory over the Sheridan Bruins last Friday night. While Mohawk looked to bounce back after a tough 5-set loss to the No. 1 ranked Humber Hawks.
The first set was no slouch. You could tell, without a doubt, that both teams were hungry for the win. The Royals started shaky in the first set, struggling to find consistency on the service line. Redeemer continued to grind their way through and found themselves in a late set battle with the Mountaineers who ended up taking the set 29-27.
The Royals seemed to have found their stride following the first set as they bounced back and were able to steal the next three sets to solidify the victory. It was a true team effort for the Royals as four players recorded double-digit points.
Brayden Stoffers had another exceptional performance for the Royals, leading all players for a game-high of 18 total points.
Brett Jenkins followed adding another 11 points for Redeemer. Setter
Jason Wildeboer had an outstanding game recording 10 points for the Royals from 5 kills and 5 service aces. Rookie
Patrick Belisle also recorded 10 total points. Blake Griffith led for Mohawk recording 16 total points.
The Royals will look to continue their streak this Saturday on the road against the St. Clair Saints in Windsor, ON.
