Another road victory for No. 4 Women's Volleyball

WELLAND — No. 4 Humber women's volleyball picked up their sixth win on the season, defeating the Niagara Knights (4-4, 6th West) Wednesday evening at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre, 3-1. The final set scores were 19-25, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-18.

Erika Dodd continues to build on a strong freshman campaign, as she once again led the Hawks on the night finishing with a team-high 15 points on 12 kills and three aces. Cecilia Zheng and Aleks Steins also finished in double figures for Humber in the win. Zheng finished with 10 points on nine kills and one block while Steins also recorded 10 points by way of six kills and four blocks.

Humber showed some rust early in the game as they really struggled from the service line in the first set. The Hawks committed nine service errors on their way to dropping the opening set by six points.

It was a much better second set for the Hawks, who used a 5-0 run midway through the set to grab momentum. Keyome Ellis was a standout for Humber in the set recording four kills as the Hawks took the set tying things up at one set.

Humber jumped out to a big lead early in the third, as with Dodd at the service line, Humber put together a 9-0 run to take a commanding 10-point lead. The Knights would fight to keep things close but would fall short as the Hawks took a 2-1 set lead. Erika Dodd led the Hawks in scoring in the set recording five points on three kills and two aces.

It was all Humber in the fourth and final set as they took a 10-3 lead and never looked back, winning the match in four sets to moving their record to 6-1 on the season.
