Knights earn much needed win over Lions

February 28, 2022 - The Niagara Knights men's basketball team played to a 77-69 win over the third place Lambton Lions Sunday afternoon.

The Knights were coming off a two game skid with losses to Redeemer earlier in the week and St. Clair Saturday afternoon while Lambton was enjoying a two game winning streak.

The tone was set early on with both teams not allowing a lot of room for error. The Lions ended the first quarter with the edge, leading by two at 20-18.

The Lions lead continued through the second quarter where it looked like they starting to widen the gap between their lead. Down 37-32, Nick Yioldassis drained a 3 point shot to pull within two of the Lions lead. The score remained all tied up at 39-39 just before the halftime buzzer when Rahim Bardi made a basket to pull his team ahead 41-39 to enter the second half.

The Knights gained momentum and took over the lead to start the second half with Lambton hot on their tail every step of the way.

Midway through the fourth quarter the Knights started to put some distance between their lead, eventually gaining a 11 point lead at 77-66 with two minutes remaining.

The blue and white went on to get the W infront of the home crowd, 77-69 and move to a 4-3 record.

Rahim Bardi recorded a season high 24 points in his teams win, while Delroy Grandison grabbed 17 rebounds in the contest.

The Knights will look ahead to the last week of regular season play when they take on the undefeated Humber Hawks (6-0) at home Friday night before boarding a bus to head up to Canadore Sunday afternoon to tip-off against the Panthers (0-6)
