Strong first quarter not enough, Mountaineers lose 93-82 to Falcons

The Mountaineers men's basketball team fell 93-82 on the road to the Fanshawe Falcons.

Mohawk got off to a hot start, scoring 35 points in the first quarter and shooting nearly 70 per cent from the field.

After that first quarter, with the Mountaineers leading 35-21, Fanshawe made adjustments on defence and were able to slow Mohawk down considerably and climb back into the game.

Mountaineers guard Daniel Graham (Hamilton, ON) led his team with 20 points, nine of which came in the first quarter. Graham added five assists and four rebounds.

Rommel Calura (Hamilton, ON) had a solid game as well with 17 points and nine rebounds. Emanuel Otong (Cambridge, ON) and Deandre Goulbourne (Toronto, ON) added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Mohawk finished the game shooting 35.6 per cent compared to Fanshawe's 51.4 shooting percentage. The Mountaineers were outrebounded 56-39 and outscored in the paint 48-20.

The Mountaineers (2-4) will play their next game against the Conestoga Condors on Mar. 2 at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre at 8 p.m.
