Men's Volleyball Earn Big Win on the Road

(Hamilton, ON)- The St. Clair men's volleyball team continued their OCAA regular season schedule on the road for two games this weekend and came away with a split in two tough exciting matches with both going to 5 sets.

On Friday night, the Saints were in Ancaster to take on the Redeemer University Royals and suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss. All but one set was decided by the minimum two points. Set scores for Redeemer were 29-27, 24-26, 23-25, 25-19 and 15-13.  Second year middle Jonah Certossi (Belle River; Belle River District) had a huge game in the losing effort with 18 kills, 9 stuff blocks, 1 assist and 3 digs. Second year middle Zach Walls (Amhertsburg; Villanova) had a great game as well with 9 kills, and 7 stuff blocks. Setter Nick Kwiatkowski (Essex; Essex District) had a solid game as well with 34 assists, 1 kill, 6 service aces and 4 stuff blocks.

With the win Redeemer improved to 3-2 on the season. The Royals are ranked  5th in Ontario.

The men were in Hamilton on Saturday afternoon to take on the Mohawk Mountaineers and this time came out on the right side of another 3-2 entertaining game. Set scores for St. Clair were 21-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-20 and 15-13.  Second year outside hitter Marc Galipeau (LaSalle; Sandwich) led the way offensively for St. Clair as he was a plus 21 and some very strong serving throughout the match. Rookie outside hitter Kale Wilkinson (Windsor; Riverside) also had a strong game going plus 14 with some great passing.  

With the loss Mohawk's record dropped to 3-2. The Mountaineers are ranked 4th in the OCAA.

With the split on the weekend St. Clair's record now sits at 3-3. The Saints are next in action at home at the Sportsplex on Saturday, November 19 at 3 pm against the Humber Hawks for their first of three straight home matches.
