Rain Pounds Seneca Fields in Sweep

With the raining pouring down, the Seneca Sting dropped both games of their double header against the Conestoga Condors 4-2 and 19-8.

Game 1
In one of the quickest games of the season, the two teams played four scoreless innings as Seneca's Chantel Gendron and Conestoga's Emily Lush battled on the mound for their respective teams.

The Condors struck in the fifth inning. Andrea Martino drove a single through the Sting infielders to score Lush. Lush had led off the inning with a single to left field before moving over on a sacrifice.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Condors scored three more runs. Cassie Leader led off the inning by reaching on an error and moved over to third base on a sacrifice. Laura Rumph followed with a double to left field to score Leader before crossing home plate one batter later on a double by Erica Culp to center field. Maddie Sturgeon drove Culp home two batters later to complete their scoring.

The Sting answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With runners on first and second, Pound doubled to center field, scoring Jasmin Namnama and Alyssa Jansen.

The Sting put runners on first and third in the bottom of the seventh, but a line out to the pitcher ended the game.

Pound had the lone two hits for the Sting to go along with a pair of RBIs. Gendron pitched all seven innings, allowing 6 hits, 4 runs (4 earned) and recording 7 strikeouts.

Martino had a pair of hits for the Condors while Lush allowed 2 hits, 2 runs (2 earned) while surrendering a pair of walks and striking out four batters for the win.

Game 2
The rain picked up early in the second game of their double header.

The weather didn't affect the Condors batters as they stormed out to a 9-0 lead after the first inning. The Sting responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Pound drove in Jansen on a single and Gendron scored Namnama while grounding into a double play.

The Condors would add three runs in the third, five more in the fourth and two in the fifth inning to complete their scoring.

The Sting scored two runs in the third, three in the fourth inning and one final run in the fifth inning.

Namnama went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs while also walking once. Pound went 2-for-4 and Anna Downing went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Gendron suffered the loss in two innings of work. Amanda Van de Graaf came on in relief and allowed 7 runs (4 earned).

Cassie Leader tied an OCAA record with 5 hits while going 5-for-5 with 5 runs scored and 4 RBIs. Makenna Ross went 3-for-5 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBIs. Jennifer Flanagan recorded the win, pitching 4 innings, allowing 8 hits, 7 runs (6 earned), 5 walks and striking out two. Vanessa Kopke pitched the fifth inning.
