Fanshawe Baseball Season Comes to a Close in OCAA Quarterfinal

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Baseball team (7-6, 3rd West) played in an OCAA quarterfinal against host Durham College (8-7, 2nd East) on Thursday evening. Unfortunately, the Falcons' season came to an end, dropping a 6-4 decision.

The first three innings were a defensive battle, as Fanshawe pitcher Noah Campagnolo (Guelph, ON) and Durham's Jason Crouse had strikeouts to keep the game scoreless. In the top of the fourth inning, Brad Verhoeven (St. Thomas, ON) hit a lead off triple that fired up the Falcons' bench. OCAA All-Star Greg Van Boekel (Woodstock, ON) singled to score Verhoeven to get Fanshawe on the board. Van Boekel then advanced on a sacrifice bunt and would make it home on a RBI single from Jamie Chopping-Lawlor (Cambridge, ON) to give the Birds a 2-0 advantage. Unfortunately the Lords came alive in the fifth inning, scoring five runs to take the lead, 5-2. Durham would add another run in the sixth frame. Fanshawe did not give up, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the seventh with another Verhoeven triple. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be enough and Durham won the game 6-4. The Player of the Game for the Falcons was Verhoeven.
