Lords cruise to a win over St. Lawrence

Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. – In their second home game of the season, the Durham College women's basketball team defeated the St. Lawrence Vikings in a decisive 79-60 victory. The Lords break out of a mini-slump as they came into the evening having dropped two of their last three games.

Durham had a strong start to the game, leading 22-15 after the first quarter and led by nearly 20 as the scoreboard read 44-25 at the halftime break. While St. Lawrence only registered 25 points, Dekota Kirby (Markham, Ont.) and Maddie Dender (Ajax, Ont.) combined for 27 points between the two, with Kirby scoring 14 and Dender putting up 13.

St. Lawrence failed to solve the hosts at both ends of the court in the second half as the Lords continued to outscore the Vikings in the second half to cruise to a 79-60 win. The Lords largest lead of the night was 27 points, as they led 64-37 in the third quarter.

In their most recent game against Loyalist on Nov. 10, Durham struggled greatly from the free throw line after converting only 16 on a season-high 37 free throw attempts. Over the last week, the Lords have had time to improve and that is exactly what they did as they finished the night shooting 10-for-16 from the line.

Dender finished the game with 25 points, one point short of her career best 26 points – set on Oct. 28, 2017 in Ottawa against the Algonquin Thunder.

"I go into the game wanting to do whatever I can to contribute to the team whether it's scoring points, playing defence or cheering from the bench," said Dender. "Today, that was scoring points – but I am just most happy about the team win tonight."
