MEN’S RUGBY CLINCH FIRST IN WEST, WILL HOST PLAYOFF SEMI-FINAL
The Georgian Grizzlies clinched their fifth straight west division championship after defeating Seneca 38-27 on Thursday.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's rugby team played their final OCAA regular season game on Thursday when they travelled to take on the Seneca Sting at Fletcher's Field in Markham.
It was a big game for both teams as the two teams entered the game as the first and second place teams in the OCAA west division standings.
It was a very tight game through the first half with the Grizzlies holding a slight 12-10 advantage.
In the second half the game opened up and the Grizzlies were able to battle hard to pull away to a 38-27 victory.
Tennyson Brown (Alliston) and Duncan Montague (Barrie) each led the team with two tries each. Braidon Foster (Barrie) and Jordan Gray (Brampton) had the other tries for the Grizzlies.
The win gives the Grizzlies a perfect regular season record of 6-0, the only OCAA team to finish the regular season undefeated.
Georgian clinches the west division championship, which they have now done in a remarkable five straight seasons. Over the course of those five years, the Grizzlies have compiled a regular season record of 28-2 and have outscored opponents 1537-351 for an incredible run.
The Grizzlies to this point have scored the most points in the OCAA this season with 285 and allowed the fewest in league play with just 92 points against. The OCAA regular season wraps up this weekend with the final league games which will then be followed by a crossover playoff round next weekend.
Georgian have earned a bye past the crossover playoff round and will host one of two OCAA semi-final matchups on the weekend of Nov. 2-3 against a yet to be determined opponent.
