No. 12 Men's Soccer Unable to Hold off Mohawk

HAMILTON – No. 12 Humber men's soccer (6-2-1, 4th West) gave away a two-goal lead, ending with a 2-2 draw against Mohawk (2-5-2, 8th West) in the regular-season finale.

Humber opened the scoring to begin the match, when Uday Arora sent a beautiful cross into the box, finding the head of Leaford Allen.

The Hawks continued to dominate the first half and recorded their second tally of the game as time expired. Julian DeSousa made a long through ball from half and found a streaking Allen, who recorded his second goal of the game.

Humber opened the second half with a chance to put the match away for good but failed to convert on a penalty kick.

With the West Division already settled, Coach Aquino removed numerous starters with 20 minutes remaining in the match. Mohawk capitalized on the changes and multiple Humber miscues. In the 78th minute, Mohawk scored its first goal of the match off of a free-kick, heading home the goal. Less than five minutes later, the Mountaineers scored the equalizer off of another set-piece. This time the shot went passed the wall, into the bottom corner of the net.

Humber had one last chance to score the game-winner at the end of injury time but was unable to convert, once again.

Humber Notes

  • Leaford Allen's 14 goals are the third-most in a season by a Humber player – Aleks Janjic (2009), 18, Michael Aigbokie (2006), 16.
  • For the first time in the Coach Aquino era, the Hawks failed to win the regular-season division title. The last time Humber finished lower than second was a fifth-place finish in 2007.
  • Humber has earned a playoff berth in every season since the program was reintroduced in 1993 – 27 consecutive seasons.
