Hanson has career night in Lords win over Vikings

OSHAWA, Ont. - A tale of two seasons continued for the Durham Lords men's basketball team on Friday evening as they improved their current winning streak to five straight conference victories, prevailing over the Vikings 74-64 behind the exceptionally strong play of first-year guard Craig Hanson (Ajax, Ont.) With the win, the Lords completed the season sweep over St. Lawrence.

After starting the season with a 1-4 record out of the blocks, the Lords have rebounded with an 8-1 second half to improve their record to 9-5 on the season.

Friday's matchup was not all smooth sailing for the Lords. Early in the third quarter, enjoying a 12-point lead, the men let their focus slip, allowing St. Lawrence to climb back to within two points. However, It was Hanson who emerged as the hero, nailing two clutch three pointers down the stretch to cement Durham's lead and the win.

The Lords will look to make it six in a row on Tuesday, Jan. 29 when they ride into Belleville to battle the Loyalist Lancers. Durham is 1-0 in their lone meeting with Loyalist this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
  • Hanson was the story for the Lords, jumping off the bench and chalking up a double-double with 18 points including shooting 4-for-5 from the three-point line.
Brandon Halliburton (Brampton, Ont.) and Dondre Huggins (Scarborough, Ont.) were in fine form, contributing 15 and 14 points apiece.
• Leading the Vikings, Tom Withey set the bar for points, putting up 20 on the evening.
  • On top of his offensive performance from behind the three-point arc, Hanson was also dominant in the paint, grabbing a new career-high 22 rebounds, including seven off the offensive glass.
• In just 21 minutes Shamar Lewis (Toronto, Ont.) found ways to contribute to the team victory bringing down seven rebounds, while registering a game-high four steals defensively.
• Matteo Mongoroo led St. Lawrence with eight rebounds.
  Overall Record: 13-8
Conference Record: 9-5
