Win over Humber puts Lords in poll position for championship berth

TORONTO, Ont. - In a tight race for a berth to the OCAA championship, the Durham College baseball team picked up a crucial win over the first place Humber Hawks, taking the Wednesday night road contest by a final score of 9-2.

With five teams within four points of one another, and only four spots at the OCAA championship, the midweek win lifts DC to a 10-6 record. Tied with 20 points is the 10-5 St. Clair Saints, while the Seneca Sting and Fanshawe Falcons both have 18 points with 9-6 and 9-8 records. The log jam is far from over as well, as a number of teams have games to make up from previously postponed games during the season due to weather.

In game action, the Lords tallied eight runs in the third and fourth innings, creating a cushion that the Hawks were unable to bounce back from.

DC has completed their initial regular season schedule, but still have a suspended game versus George Brown to complete, and a postponed match versus Seneca to reschedule. Dates and times will follow shortly.
Fernando Suarez Muniz (Whitby, Ont.) scored half the runs for the Lords in their outstanding third and fourth innings at the plate. The power hitter was 2-for-4 on the evening, cashing in four RBI and two runs.
• Picking up four hits in the huge late season win, Griffin Oliver (Oshawa, Ont.) was 4-for-5 for the Lords, scoring one RBI and two runs
  • Going the distance for DC, Connor May (Oshawa, Ont.) earned the complete seven inning win, allowing two earned runs on eight hits allowed, while also striking out eight Hawks batters.
• Humber utilized three pitchers in the loss with Braden Taylor being charged the loss.
  Overall Record: 13-7 (W-L)
Conference Record: 10-6
