No. 3 Falcons Women’s Soccer Victorious over Lambton

(London, Ontario) – The No. 3 CCAA ranked Fanshawe Women's Soccer squad (1-0-1) notched a 14-0 victory over the Lambton Lions (1-2) on Saturday afternoon in their home opener. The win extends their OCAA regular season unbeaten streak to 21 games.

The Falcons came out flying, with first year Lauryn Soares (Strathroy, ON) getting the red and white on the board with a goal in the 2nd minute. Fanshawe made it 2-0 on a beautiful through ball from Victoria Hinchliffe (Guelph, ON) that resulted in a goal from veteran striker Kayla McQueen (London, ON). McQueen then added three more goals to put the Falcons up 5-0 after the first 30 minutes of play. Local rookie midfielder Madilyn Michienzi then made a couple strong moves to beat the Lions defense and put the ball in the back of the net. Hinchliffe would then add three goals of her own to close out the half with a 9-0 lead.

The Falcons wasted no time in the second half, as McQueen scored her fifth goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 47th minute. Goals by Sophie Walker (Georgetown, ON) and Juliana Popovic (London, ON) would extend Fanshawe's lead to 12-0. Soares found the back of the net for her second and third time in the match and the home team would go on to win 14-0. Fanshawe had 25 total shots to Lambton's one on the game. McQueen currently leads the OCAA in goals scored this season with seven.

The Falcons will be back in action on Tuesday, September 28 when they host the Conestoga Condors (0-1-0) at 4pm.
