Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Durham College Sports Information

Lords lose first sets since October, but stay undefeated in conference play

OSHAWA, Ont. – For the second time this season the Durham College women's volleyball team went to five sets and for the second time picked up a victory as the Lords stayed undefeated and improved to 14-0.

The 3-2 victory over the Georgian Grizzlies puts the Lords one game away from clinching a spot in the OCAA championship. A win on Saturday against the Centennial Colts or a loss by Algonquin and/or Loyalist gives them a berth for finishing in the top two in the east region.

"Tonight showed our team that although we've been having a great season so far there is still work to do as we head into the next month of play," said head coach Tony Clarke. "Georgian played extremely well tonight and forced us to change it up. I felt we adapted well and used it to learn, which will pay off in February."

Shannon Dean (Whitby, Ont.) and Allison Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) continued to be leaders for the Lords as they both finished with a match-high 23 points. Marshall led the Lords with 17 kills, while Dean led with three blocks. They duo each finished with four aces.

Madeleine Elit (Trenton, Ont.) finished with nine points – five kills, two aces and two blocks. Lucia Kalmeyer (Oshawa, Ont.) and Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) each had five kills apiece.

For Georgian it was Kelsey Watson leading with 11 kills, while Quinn McGregor finished with 10 kills. Katharyn Avery was strong at the service line as she had a season-high seven aces in the Grizzlies victory.

This Saturday Durham heads to Scarborough to take on the Centennial Colts. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. Their next home game is Thursday, Feb. 2 against the Loyalist Lancers.
