Gendron Pitches Second Straight Complete Game

The Seneca Sting (0-10) played their best games of the season, but ran into the division-leading Humber Hawks (9-1), falling 8-2 in the second game.

The Hawks jumped on the Sting from the opening pitch, scoring four runs before the Sting offense even approached the batter's box. With the Hawks lead 1-0, Kate Kostuch tripled to deep left field, scoring Presly Buchanan. With two outs, the Hawks tacked on two more runs as Kate Kostuch and Hannah Koziolek crossed home plate.

Meaghan Murphy helped the Hawks add to their lead in the fourth inning, driving a bases loaded double to center field, scoring Emma Woodrow and Julie Kostuch.

The Sting battled back in the bottom half of the fourth inning. With two runners on, Melissa Wonfor hit a hard liner down the third base line, scoring Chantal Gendron for the Sting's first run. Danielle Pound followed with an infield single which scored Alik Derderian.

The Hawks quickly responded in the top of the fifth inning. Julie Kostuch singled to center field, scoring Jessica MacPherson and Koziolek to regain the six-run lead.

Wonfor went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI. Kiara Saito was 2-for-3 with 7 putouts behind the plate. Pound was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Derderian finished with a hit for the Sting.

Murphy led the Hawks offensively, going 3-for-3 with a run and a pair of RBIs. Julie Kostuch was 2-for-4 with a run and 2 RBIs. Koziolek (2 runs, 1 RBI) and MacPherson (1 run, 1 RBI) each added a pair of hits.

Rachel Matheson-Green picked up the win for the Hawks, allowing 2 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits and 4 strikeouts over 5 innings. Myranda Pierson pitched the final two innings for the Hawks, surrendering 1 hit and recording 2 strikeouts. Gendron allowed 8 runs (6 earned) on 12 hits, 2 walks and struck out 8 batters.
