Mohawk Mountaineers women's volleyball rallied back in the third set to defeat the Redeemer Royals 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 28-26)

The Mountaineers have now won their first four games of the season and their first at home.

A collective effort was key to victory, said head coach Kelsey Kovar.

"We always play together, as a unit," Kovar explained. "Volleyball is one of those special sports where it matters what every single person on the court is doing and we knew how to achieve that."

Despite Mohawk's solid start in the first two sets, the third deemed to be a bit more challenging. The Mountaineers saw themselves on the brink of set point, 23-24, but were able to extend the match and put together some solid plays as a team en route to the win.

Mohawk's Rachel Vanderwal (Hamilton, ON) led the team with 10 kills and Yvonne Mann (Kitchener, ON) contributed 22 assists. Anika Gatto (Vancouver, BC) also had an outstanding performance by achieving a career-high 24 digs.

Kovar explained the teams goals moving forward.

"I expect we keep the same mentality and mental toughness coming into every game," Kovar said. "Right now, we have a couple of injuries so the fact we are able to (win) and stay consistent in the game is a good sign."

The Mountaineers will host the St. Clair Saints next on Nov. 12 with a 1 p.m. start.
