No. 6 Lords bring home silver

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The No. 6 nationally ranked Durham College men's volleyball team picked up the OCAA silver medal after dropping the championship final to the No. 1 Humber Hawks on Saturday evening in Peterborough. Set scores were 23-25, 25-27, 22-25.

This marks the second silver for the DC men's volleyball program in the last four years, with their last provincial medal coming in 2017. Durham delivered on an exceptional season, claiming the OCAA east division title with a 16-2 regular season record. The Lords then went on to defeat Mohawk in the OCAA crossover round, Redeemer in the quarter-finals, and Fanshawe in the semifinals.

Finishing in the top two in the province also secured a berth to the CCAA national championship as the OCAA will have two representatives at the prestigious event. The national tournament will be hosted by St. Thomas University in Fredericton and will take place from March 11-14.
  • Named an OCAA championship all-star and an OCAA east all-rookie, Rouzbeh Rahnavard (Richmond Hill, Ont.) was impressive in his first provincial championship, leading the Lords with 10 points from 10 kills.
• Both OCAA east first team all-star Andrew Dube (Uxbridge, Ont.) and player of the match Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) recorded nine points in the tough three set match, with Dube registering eight kills and an ace, and Krabi adding six kills, one ace, and two blocks.
• Joshua Fadare and Rrezart Sadiku tied with a game-high 15 points in the victory for the Hawks, as Fadare scored 11 kills, one ace, and three blocks, while Sadiku notched 12 kills, two aces, and one block.
  • Adding to a collection of hardware from this weekend which included being named a CCAA All-Canadian, OCAA east player of the year, and an OCAA east first team all-star, Liam Gray (Barrie, Ont.) was also named an OCAA championship all-star, recording 31 assists and eight digs in the tournament finale.
• Along with leading the team offence, Rahnavard also led the Lords defensively with 10 digs in the three set contest.
• Humber setter Jake Gomes recorded 32 assists, while libero Rady Kim notched 12 digs.
