Box Score SCARBOROUGH, Ont. - A dominant display from the Durham College men's soccer team saw them move to the top of the OCAA east region standings after a 4–1 win over the Centennial Colts.
Durham took the lead in the sixth minute when
Nate Paine (Whitby, Ont.) got on the end of a rebound and tapped home from close range to get his second of the season.
The Colts settled into the game more and started pressuring the Lords' back line, but Durham stood firm until they grabbed a second goal in the 22nd minute when
Jeremy Bangala (Pickering, Ont.) flicked the ball onto
Nigel Buckley (Pickering, Ont.) who found the bottom left corner.
Durham continued to dominate proceedings and had a few solid chances from Bangala,
Ryan Airlie (Whitby, Ont.) and Paine, as they searched for a third.
Just before the break, in the 41st minute, the Lords were awarded a penalty, which
Colin Reilly (Whitby, Ont.) converted to give Durham a 3-0 lead at halftime.
To start the second half, Durham's
Aidan Donaldson (Scarborough, Ont.) had an early chance to stretch the Lords lead further, but his shot went just wide of the left corner.
The Lords eventually got their fourth in the 63rd minute when Buckley got on the end of a rebound and his shot was too strong for the keeper to deflect aside.
The Colts pulled one back in the 79th minute when Liam Cox jumped with goalie
Kevon Grant (Ajax, Ont.) and headed the ball over the line.
Durham outshot the Colts 21-13 in the dominant victory, which was an east region first place matchup. The Lords next travel to Peterborough to face Fleming on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 8:15 p.m.
