WINDSOR, ON - Opening the 2021 OCAA softball championship with a quarter-final matchup versus Seneca, the Durham College women's softball team advanced to Day 2 following a dominant 11-1 win over the Sting in Windsor on Thursday afternoon.
The Lords needed just five-innings to earn the win, picking up 14 hits en route to the 10-run differential, highlighted by a five run fifth innings to seal the victory. Five DC batteres registered multiple hits, while starting pitcher
Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) parlayed her recent OCAA all-star announcement into a five inning two hit game.
Advancing to the second day of the OCAA championship the Lords will next face the second seeded Humber Hawks. Action will begin once again in Windsor tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. with the tournament now shifting to a double-elimination format for the remaining games. Game 1
• Just named an OCAA all-star for the second time,
Alexis Pereira (Newmarket, ON) led the way for the Lords, going 2-for-4, including a triple, with three RBI and two runs.
• Veteran third base
Nicole Mancini (Toronto, ON) was impressive at the plate for the Lords finishing 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run
• The trio of
Kaysa Melin (Surrey, BC),
Abi Suffel (Whitby, ON), and
Gracie Hearns (Napanee, ON) each registered two hits for DC in the big win.
• Chloe Ferko and Brooklyn Carroll were the only Seneca players to earn a hit in the loss.
• As mentioned, Redick pitched a stellar game going the full five innings, allowing just two hits, one walk, and one earned run, while striking out seven Sting batters.
• Making the start the the Sting, Jordan Hughes was the lone pitcher used, going 4.1 innings, while conceding 14 hits and 10 earned runs.
