Lords earn first conference win of 2018-19

OSHAWA, Ont. – It hasn't been the storybook start that the Durham College men's volleyball team had hoped for, but their determination paid off Thursday evening as the squad earned its first victory of the 2018-19 season in a back-and-forth affair with the Loyalist Lancers.

Both squads were looking to get into the win column for the first time this year, trading sets before the match ultimately stretched to a fifth and deciding frame.

The end arrived in dramatic fashion.

Lucas Pichl (Cobourg, Ont.) earned the match-winning ace as the ball dropped straight down after touching the top of the net for the 15-13 fifth set victory.

Thursday night was also the first official night of Movember fundraising for the Durham College men's volleyball program. They raised a few dollars at the match, but will also be collecting donations at their team page throughout the month of November and at their Thursday, Nov. 22 and Thursday, Nov. 29 matches at the CRWC. Their team page can be found at www.durhamlords.com/movember

The Lords next match is Friday, Nov. 7 in North York against the Seneca Sting. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m.
