No. 4 Women's volleyball clinch title in season finale

LONDON — No. 4 Humber women's volleyball capped off the 2022 regular season with a win, defeating the Fanshawe Falcons (4-5, 6th West) Sunday afternoon at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre, 3-1. The final set scores were 25-15, 19-25, 25-23 and 25-22.

Erika Dodd strengthened her case for OCAA Rookie of the year as she was once again the catalyst for Humber in the match. Dodd recorded a career-high 24 points on a career-high 21 kills and three aces in the win.

Both Keyome Ellis and Alex Krstonosic also finished in double figures for the Hawks. Ellis finished with 16 points on a career-high 12 kills, two blocks, and two aces while Krstonosic finished with 16 points on 14 kills, one block, and one ace

The two sides were neck and neck for much of the first set resulting in a 16-14 Humber lead halfway through the set. The Hawks took control from that point on finishing the set on a 9-1 run to take the opening set.

Humber never got going in the second set as they fell behind early taking a timeout down 15-10. The Hawks would be unable to mount a comeback and dropped the second set the game now tied one set apiece.

The third set was again a back-and-forth affair with both sides still knotted up at 21 points each. The Hawks managed to execute better on the last few possessions, pulling the set win to take a 2-1 set lead

Humber again fell behind Fanshawe midway through the set forcing a Hawks timeout with the score 15-11. The Hawks rallied coming out of the timeout quickly tying things up a 16 apiece. Humber would carry the momentum through the decisive moments of the set taking it by a score of, 25-22 and winning the match 3-1.

No. 4 Humber volleyball (8-1, 1st West) will host Conestoga (2-7, 8th West) on Mar. 10 in the first round of the playoffs. The first serve is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
