SUDBURY, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team lost their first non-exhibition match of the year on Saturday night to the Niagara Knights.
Niagara, host of the 2019 CCAA women's volleyball championship, defeated the Lords 3-1 (19-25, 25-22, 16-25, 18-25) in the OCAA women's volleyball championship semifinal at Cambrian College. In their only other meeting of the year, an exhibition match at the Niagara Invitational, the Lords had prevailed 3-2.
"Unfortunately, tonight the Knights outplayed us, but our weekend is not over, we're still fighting for a medal tomorrow," said head coach
Tony Clarke. "We want to end our year on a positive note, so we will regroup and focus on our match against Humber."
Sunday's bronze medal match is scheduled for 2 p.m. against the Humber Hawks. The two teams haven't met since 2017 when they battled for gold.
With the Hawks also losing their semifinal to the Fanshawe Falcons, it guarantees a new champion for the first time since 2007.
