Morgan's Career Night Leads Men's Basketball to Tenth Straight Win

ETOBICOKE — Humber men's basketball (10-4, 3rd West) recorded its tenth straight win, defeating the Mohawk Mountaineers (8-5, 6th West) Wednesday evening at the North Campus Gym, 114-100.

Jaylan Morgan had his best night as a member of the Humber squad, finishing with a career-high 40 points on a scorching 15-of-17 (88.2 percent) shooting from the field - including six-of-eight from beyond the arc. Morgan also chipped in across the board, finishing with six rebounds, four assists and a block as he filled up the stat sheet.

Both teams traded buckets in the early going, as the game opened up with five straight three's. Humber seemed to take control of the quarter from there, as Mohawk struggled to keep pace with the Hawks offence. Humber finished with 31 points in the opening frame, coming off 13-of-27 (48.1 percent) shooting as they finished the quarter up, 31-15.

The pace of the game slowed in the second as both teams worked more in the half-court. This seemed to benefit the Mountaineers, as they were able to slowly chip away at the deficit, trimming the Humber lead down to seven. Morgan was huge for Humber in the first half, finishing with 19 points as Humber went into the break leading by eight.

Humber found its shooting touch following the break, as the Hawks dropped 16 points in just over four minutes of play in the third quarter. That would do little to discourage the visiting Mountaineers as they fought back with a run of their own, trailing by seven with ten minutes remaining.

Morgan went to work to begin the fourth quarter, as he knocked down two three's to push Humber's lead up to 15. The fifth-year guard erupted for 16 of his 40 points in the fourth alone, as the Hawks shredded the Mountaineers defence for 38 points in the quarter.  From there the Hawks rolled easily to the win taking it by a score of, 114-100

Not to be outdone, third-year guard Jordon Francis was also outstanding for Humber on the night, as he finished with a season-high 22 points while adding three rebounds and three assists.
