OTTAWA, Ont. – With 14 kills in a 3-1 victory on Saturday over the La Cité Coyotes, Durham College men's volleyball middle
Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) is now tied for sixth all-time in kills.
Going into the match in eighth overall, Janssen's 14 kills puts him at 393 as a Lord, tying him with former teammate Jeremy Hoekstra and passing Brad Van Hartingsveldt's 384 kills.
He is still eighth in all-time points at Durham College, with 478, which trails Van Hartingsveldt's 516 points.
Although Janssen and the nationally ranked Lords walked away with the victory, it was not easily given to them by the Coyotes, who won the opening set 26-24. Durham would then roll through the final three sets 25-19, 25-19 and 25-14, en route to their ninth straight win.
Alongside Janssen's match-high 14 kills, Durham looked to
Andrew Dube (Uxbridge, Ont.),
Mike Harper (Oakville, Ont.) and
Bret Polfuss (Kitchener, Ont.) to contribute 13, 11 and 10 kills respectively.
Harrison Wood (Uxbridge, Ont.) was the team's leader in aces with four and tied Harper for a match-high three blocks.
Next Thursday the Lords will face the undefeated Georgian Grizzlies at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m.
Although Durham lost their conference match against Georgian in November, the Lords defeated the Grizzlies to win the Niagara Knights Invitational in January.
