LONDON, ON - Competing in London as part of a mini-tournament hosted by Fanshawe to open the 2021 OCAA season, DC softball split two games falling 5-4 in their season opener versus St. Clair, before defeating Conestoga 12-2.
A number of returning veterans made their mark at the plate in the pair of games as
Alexis Pereira (Newmarket, ON) brought in two RBI in Game 1, while
Nicole Mancini (Toronto, ON) did the same in Game 2.
Meanwhile, first-year pitcher
Morgan Salter (Battersea, ON) impressed in a Game 2 performance which saw her deliver 12 strikeouts from the pitching circle, while adding two RBI of her own at the plate.
Competition continues in London where the Lords will wrap up the mini-tournament with a showdown against the host Fanshaw Falcons tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Game 1
• Pereira finished the contest 1-for-4 at the plate, registering two RBI on a second inning single.
• Returning for her second season in the green and gold,
Sydney Redick (Alvinston, ON) went 2-for-4 , while also crossing the plate for a run.
Game 2
• Mancini delivered a 1-for-3 outing, adding a walk to produce two RBI and three runs.
• First-year standouts
Kaysa Melin (Surrey B.C.),
Brynne Naworynski (Aurora, ON), and
Abi Suffel (Whitby, ON) each added two hits apiece in the dominant offensive effort for the Lords versus Conestoga.
Game 1
• Making her first appearance in the pitching circle with the Lords,
Hannah Oke (Brooklin, ON) pitched all six innings, picking up one strikeout, while allowing 11 hits, three walks and five earned runs.
Game 2
• Also dawning the green and gold for the first time, Salter earned the win in a complete six inning effort, striking out 12, while giving up just two walks, four hits, and two unearned runs.
