Women's Soccer Lose Battle for First

London, ON (Oct 7, 2021) The St. Clair women's soccer team travelled to London on Thursday to take on the Fanshawe Falcons in a battle for first place between two unbeaten teams. The Saints played hard on the road but ended up losing the match by a score of 3-0.

In the battle for the best in the west, the teams exchanged shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes. Fanshawe would get on the board first in the 28th minute when Aysia King dribbled through the St. Clair defense and placed the ball in the bottom left corner of the net. OCAA scoring leader, Kayla McQueen then made the score 2-0 on a penalty kick to make her tally 17 on the season in the  45th minute. The Falcons held a 7-3 shot attempt advantage at half time.

Despite the Saints outshooting the Falcons in the second half, the Fanshawe keeper made a couple of strong saves to hold St. Clair scoreless. King would score again in the 89th minute to secure the 3-0 victory. The total shots on goal in the game were 6-4 in favour of the Saints and shot attempts were tied 9-9. The Saints player of the game was Ally Schooley (Tecumseh; Tecumseh Vista) had a great match as she was outstanding at both ends of the field.

With the loss St. Clair's record fell to 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie while Fanshawe improved to 5 wins and a tie. The  Saints had tied Fanshawe 1-1 in their first game of the regular season on September 17th. St. Clair has locked up second place and will host the third place team from the south division in a cross over playoff game next weekend at Acumen Stadium (Day and Time TBA). Since the Falcons finished in first place they will get a bye to the OCAA Quarterfinals the following weekend.
