Lords remain in the hunt for a home playoff game

BELLEVILLE, Ont. – The fourth set on Saturday could be a turning point for the Durham College men's volleyball team this season.

After dropping a pair of 25-20 sets and trailing 2-1 to the Loyalist Lancers, Durham managed to pull off a big 26-24 fourth set win to stay alive. In the fifth and deciding set, Durham rolled to a 15-9 victory to keep their home playoff match chances alive.

Durham had struggled heading into the match dropping seven of nine games but a come from behind victory over the Lancers may just be what the team needed to get back into championship form.
 
Durham (8-9) is battling with Fleming (8-8), Algonquin (7-9) and La Cite (7-9) for fourth place and the final home playoff game in the OCAA east region. The Lords will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 14 against the Seneca Sting (5-12), needing the win and some help in order to lock up fourth place.
 
Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) added to his record-breaking point total racking up 18 kills, four aces and one block. The graduating senior now has 817 in his OCAA career.
 
Feeding Janssen the ball was setter Rory Langley (Uxbridge, Ont.) who had 40 assists. Langley has had 40 or more assists eight times this season. Langley also led the team defensively with 11 digs while Luke Fafard (Dauphin, Man.) had nine. The Lords had 46 total digs.
 
Alex Cox lead the Lancers in scoring with 10 kills and two aces for 12 points while middle blocker Dylan Hayes contributed an impressive seven blocks.
 
Durham has won ten straight matches over Loyalist including two the season with their last loss coming on Jan. 18, 2013.
