The Streak to Take November Carries On as Women Volleyball Takes Down Boréal

Story by Niagara College Sport Communication Students Clay Deline and Riley Morrison

November 26, 2022...WELLAND - Continuing their undefeated streak (5-0), Niagara College Knights women's volleyball took down the Boréal Vipères 3-0 with set wins of 25-19, 25-20, 25-23.

The Knights displayed fiery efforts and stayed consistent throughout the match. Pre-Health Major Alexis Fothergill was the game's breakout player, who was able to register nine aces herself along with seven kills and three digs, to hold strong for the Knights to seal the victory.

When asked about Alexis' breakout game, head coach Tommy Sloan responded: "Alexis worked hard on her serve and it was really cool to see it come to completion today. We wanted to run her all day. Nine aces is huge... I didn't even know it was that many. She controlled the net well as well, aggressive on offense, she was closing blocks well, a really all-around great game for her."

The Knights are undefeated this November (5-0) and have only lost one set in that span (14-1). When asked about the hot streak, Sloan stated, "If we aren't happy about our November then we don't actually enjoy volleyball, because it's been a great month!."We've got more game tomorrow to go undefeated in November, so as we said it's a good run to be on and it's a very large confidence booster." The Knights were able to keep this hot streak alive with a strong performance from Photography major Rachael Bickford who registered 11 assists to go along with 1 kill and 4 digs. The chemistry in this group is showing exponentially with all of these assists."

To begin the season, this group started off rough with an 0-2 start, but now sit in the upper half of all programs in the OCAA West division. Sitting at 5-2 right now, Niagara College is tied for second place in the Western Conference.

The Knights will wrap up their final home game before Christmas tomorrow at home to the visiting Cambrian Golden Shield before heading to St. Clair Saturday December 3rd for their last game of the Fall term.
