For the first time ever, Mohawk women's soccer played at Tim Hortons Field and put up a strong battle versus the Sheridan Bruins. The Mountaineers played strong to the end, but eventually lost 4-2.

It was an exciting opportunity for the women to get to play in a professional stadium like Tim Hortons Field.

"We were excited to come and play here," said head coach Paul Giannini. "The width and size of the field makes for good soccer."

The Mountaineers were down 1-0 following a Bruins goal in the third minute by Daniella Labog.

The early deficit didn't impact the Mountaineers as they continued to play with intensity and were able to tie the game 1-1 in the 35th minute on Taylor Lee's second of the season.

"It was an amazing feeling to score today," said Lee. "With it being our first time at Tim Hortons Field, it was a really special moment."

Mohawk would capitalize again in the second half to take a 2-1 lead. Third-year midfielder Sabrina Cianciosi scored her first career goal for the Mountaineers in the 50th minute.

The Bruins answered quickly as they tied the game 2-2 in the 56th minute. Daniela Jenkins would score the tying goal.

In the 71st minute, Celina Barnard gave the Bruins the lead and then followed with her second of the game in the 84th minute.

Regardless of the results in this game, the Mountaineers had already clinched a playoff spot. Mohawk (1-2-2) will be on the road next weekend versus the St. Clair Saints for the OCAA crossover round.
