The Centennial Colts played tough all game and were rewarded with a hard-fought home-opening win, as they hung on to beat the Durham Lords 71-65 at Progress Campus on Wednesday night.

The Colts were able to turn around a difficult offensive performance in the 3rd quarter when they scored just 12 points by pouring in 25 points in the 4th to secure their first win of the season and improve to 1-2.

Centennial was led in the game by 3rd-year guard Quentin Herbert, who finished the game with 19 points, Makaile Richards, who scored 8 points and added 14 rebounds and Covaun Armstrong, who continued his scoring streak with 19. Armstrong is the Colts leading scorer and currently sits 8th in scoring in the OCAA, averaging 21 points per game.

Centennial won the game despite struggling heavily from long range, as the Colts made just 3 of their 19 three-point attempts in the contest. Thankfully, they sunk several critical threes in the 4th quarter to help secure the victory.

"It just came down to our intensity," said Armstrong after the game when asked about the difference between the 3rd and 4th quarter. "In the 3rd, we had a timeout, and we were discussing how we can score… and it was just about not being selfish, getting the ball ahead, and that's what we were able to do in the 4th quarter."

The Colts will look to turn their first win into their first winning streak on Friday, as they'll take on the George Brown Huskies at Progress Campus.
