Ferreira swings and connects on her 11th career home run

Ferreira breaks record; Softball sweeps Lambton

ETOBICOKE - Humber softball (7-3, 3rd OCAA) got back into the win column Sunday afternoon, sweeping the Lambton Lions (2-6, 6th OCAA) at Connorvale Park. The story of the afternoon was about fourth-year infielder Alexis Ferreira who moved into first all-time on Humber's career home run list. Ferreira hit her 11th career long ball in game one, breaking the record of Terah Camilleri, who hit ten in 80 games for the Hawks from 2014-19.

Game One – Humber 11, Lambton 3

The Hawks' offence wasted no time getting on the board at home, putting up two runs in the first inning. After a double from rookie Shea Hilpert, Alexis Ferreira stepped to the plate and crushed a two-run bomb to deep left-centre field, taking sole possession on Humber's career home runs list.

Humber's bats would remain hot in the second inning, adding five more runs in the frame. With the bases loaded, Hilpert hit her second double of the game, cashing in Julia DeVuono and Jorja Berney. A two-run double off the bat of Hannah Koziolek and an RBI single from Julie Kostuch would push Humber's lead to seven.

Humber continued rolling into the third, adding four more runs. With two on, red-hot Ferreira would hit a two-run double, eventually finishing with a career-high six RBIs in the game. Amelia Russo and DeVuono would join the hit parade, both adding an RBI single in the frame.

Mikaela Moore had a great day in the circle, pitching seven innings, holding the Lions to three runs, and earning her second win of the season.

Game 2 – Humber 12, Lambton 2 (6 innings)

After a scoreless first inning, Humber's offence got the bats going with a solo home run from Breanna Oliver. Shea Hilpert followed that up with a single, cashing in Jorja Berney from third.

The Lambton Lions would tie the game in the top of the third after a two-run double, but Humber would pull away for good in the home half of the inning. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Mattisyn Balson scored Rilee Devries from third, followed by Taylor O'Neill's RBI-double. Christina D'Angelo would drive in two more runs with a double of her own.

Alexis Ferreira added to her home run total in the fourth, hitting a solo shot for her second deep fly of the day.

Jessica MacPherson would instil the mercy rule in the sixth inning, walking off the Lions with a two-run double.

Rilee Devries recorded his second win of the season, throwing all six innings, allowing two runs on two hits, with two strikeouts.
