No. 3 Women’s Basketball Rolls on Offence in Win Over Mohawk, 87-63

ETOBICOKE — No. 3 Humber women's basketball stayed undefeated on the season as they beat the Mohawk Mountaineers (3-8, 7th West), Wednesday evening at the North Campus Gym, 87-63.

Jahnae Gyles paced the Hawks for the evening as she finished with 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and a block in the game.

Humber was terrific on the defensive end in the first quarter as they held Mohawk without a basket for the first half of the frame. The Hawks were equally good on the other end going on a 14-4 run to start the game, finishing the quarter up by 12 with the score, 21-9.

The next quarter would be all Humber from the jump as they opened things on an 8-0 run taking an early 19-point lead. Mohawk was able to cut into the Hawks' lead just before the half, making it an 11-point game heading into the break.

The Hawks quickly went to work in the third pushing their lead back up to 19, as the Mountaineers struggled to keep Humber from attacking the basket. Gyles and Ivana Twumasi were particularly strong for the Hawks in the quarter, as they combined for 15 of the teams 21 points in the frame.

The pace of the game opened up in the fourth as Mohawk looked for a way back into the game. Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, this led to plenty of easy looks for the Hawks as they put up a game-high 32 points in the quarter. With the offensive outbreak in the fourth Humber easily coasted to the final buzzer, taking this one by a score of, 87-63.

Three other Hawks joined Gyles in double figures on the night, with Kia Watt and Twumasi both finishing with 14 points, while Miea Campbell-Johnson continued her strong play on the season finishing with 11 points of her own.
