Shooting woes prove costly for DC

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords men's basketball team were defeated 71-53 by the visiting Centennial Colts on Friday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

The Lords struggled to find their shot in the home contest, shooting just 24 percent from the floor, while knocking down just one field goal from beyond the three-point arc. Decent defence from the green and gold, holding the Colts under 20 points in all four quarters, helped in keeping the contest close, but without the offensive boost the win remained elusive for Durham.

Prior to the start of the match, the Lords held a special pre-game ceremony, honouring Durham College's three championship teams from the fall semester. Unveiling new championship banners, the CCAA national championship men's soccer team, NCBC national championship baseball team, and OCAA provincial championship men's rugby team were all recognized for their incredible achievements. Next up for the Lords is a showdown with the Algonquin Thunder on Friday, Feb. 14 at the CRWC. Tip-off for the contest is scheduled for 8 p.m., with the game available to be streamed on OCAA LIVE.
  • Durham was led by first-year forward Gabriel Andre (Ottawa, Ont.) who tallied nine points, while both Romareo Stephenson (Markham, Ont.) and Tyrique Walters (Brampton, Ont.) added eight points each.
• Recording a game-high 14 points, Kyrin Henlin guided the Colts offence in the win.
  • Stephenson grabbed a team-high 11 boards for the Lords, including six off the offensive glass, while Andre pulled down eight on top of two assists, one steal, and two blocks.
• Both Walshak Yusef and Dieu Merci Betoukoumessou recorded double-digit rebounds, finishing with 13 and 11 respectively.
  Overall Record: 5-19 (W-L)
Conference Record: 3-13

Next match: Friday, Feb. 14 vs. Algonquin Thunder • (8 p.m. – CRWC)
