OSHAWA, ON - DC hosted the St. Lawrence Surge at Vaso's Field on Friday evening for the last regular season match of the Lords men's soccer regular season, defeating the visitors 3-1.
The game started off with a lot of action at both ends of the pitch. The Surge opened the scoring, quickly getting the board early in the 10th minute, but the Lords bounced backed even quicker, tying the game just 30 seconds later courtesy
Joshua Mehta (Mississauga, ON).
The Lords were then awarded a penalty in the 26th minute.
Skylar Grey (Ajax, ON) stepped to the spot to take it and buried it in the bottom right corner to put the Lords ahead 2-1.
The excitement was short-lived when the Surge were awarded a penalty of their own. Facing down the Surge penalty attempt, Lords goalkeeper
Garrett Werner (Ajax, ON) was equal to the task making a clutch stop to keep their 2-1 lead. Werner was spectacular throughout the night, making five game-saving efforts while finishing the night with nine total saves.
A final insurance marker was added by
Trenden Mason (Oshawa, ON), extending the Lords lead to 3-1 at the end of the first half.
The second half went back-and-forth with great chances at each end, but the score stayed the same.
With the 3-1 win the Lords secured the top spot in the OCAA East division. Next looking ahead to the playoffs, DC's postseason opponent, along with the date and time will be confirmed in the coming days.
