Women's basketball wins fourth straight

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's basketball team maintained their position near the top of the OCAA east division, defeating the Loyalist Lancers 78-47 on Tuesday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

The win was the fourth consecutive victory for the green and gold, lifting their record to 7-2 to hold onto a three way tie for second place in the east alongside George Brown and UTM.

Once again, the Lords stifling defence led the way to the win. Durham held the Lancers to just 27 percent shooting, forcing 22 turnovers, while picking up nine steals and four blocks. The evening was highlighted by a 21-8 second quarter, with the Lords building an insurmountable lead.

DC will look to jump ahead of the aforementioned George Brown Huskies as they welcome the OCAA east division opponent to the CRWC on Tuesday, Jan. 21 for the important second half contest. Tip-off for the match is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the game webcast on OCAA LIVE.
  • Third-year athlete Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) was lights out from behind the arc, nailing five three pointers en route to scoring a game-high 25 points for the Lords.
• Adding four three pointers of her own, Andrea Zulich added 18 points, while Kendra Oliver (Ajax, Ont.) added 16 points from inside the arc in the win.
• Brittany Mason and Kate Raso were the only Lancers to find success on the offensive end, finishing with 17 and 16 respectively.
  • Oliver recorded her seventh double-double of the season, and fourth consecutive, notching 10 rebounds from three offensive and seven defensive boards. She also added three assists, four steals and a block to round out her stat line for the night.
• Loyalist forward Hannah Shipper was strong on the boards, grabbing four offensive and six defensive rebounds to tie for a game-high 10.
  Overall Record: 13-7 (W-L)
Conference Record: 7-2

Next match: Tuesday, Jan. 21 vs. George Brown Huskies • (6 p.m. – CRWC)
