KINGSTON, Ont. – The unlikely has happened – the Durham Lords women's basketball team defeated the nationally ranked Humber Hawks 68-59 in Thursday's OCAA quarter-final.
This is the first quarter-final victory for the Lords since 2006 when they defeated the Niagara Knights 55-53. It is also their first win over the Humber Hawks since 2007.
"Today was a complete team effort with everyone contributing to our scoring," said head coach Heather Lafontaine. "I'm proud of the result of our efforts, but we now need to turn our attention to Friday and refining the mistakes we made throughout today's quarter-final."
Durham will now face the rival St. Clair Saints on Friday at 6 p.m. in the semifinal. From 2015-17 the met in the OCAA crossover each season, with Durham losing each of those three meetings.

Marie Stasiuk (Cobourg, Ont.) led the Lords with 22 points, which was also a game high.
• Veteran players
Maddie Dender (Ajax, Ont.) and
Dekota Kirby (Markham, Ont.) contributed 13 and 10 points respectively.
• Britannia Brown led the Humber Hawks with 14 points, while Miea Campbell-Johnson and Laura Meadows scored 13 each.
• Humber outrebounded the Lords 45-39, with Stasiuk leading Durham with eight. Brown had the game-high of nine for the Hawks.
• Dender's defensive play made a difference as she had a game-high three steals.
