St. Clair Softball Move to 2-2 at After Day Two of CCSA Nationals

Kelowna, BC – The St. Clair College Women's Softball team defeated the University of Regina 6-4 but then lost 9-2 to host University of British Columbia (Okanagan) Saturday at the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association National Championship in Kelowna, BC.  The Saints will need to win their final round robin game against the University of Calgary on Sunday morning and get some help in the tiebreaker to advance to the Gold Medal final in the afternoon. 

In the game one win on Saturday over Regina St. Clair fell behind 3-0 in the 2nd inning but put up four runs in the 3rd to take back the lead.  The Saints added two runs in the 6th inning and gave up a single in the 7th to take the win.  Winning pitcher Amy Claydon (Cambridge, ON) went the distance allowing two earned runs on five hits and three walks but sat down 10 by way of the strikeout for the Saints.  Jacklyn Yewchyn (Windsor, ON) got on base with three singles adding an RBI and Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON) stroked a single and a double.  Claydon helped her cause with another home run and two RBI's. 

In the mercy shortened game two loss against UBCO St. Clair could only manage four team hits which included a Claydon solo homerun and a Murphy triple with Yewchyn contributing an RBI single.  Rya Cowan (LaSalle, ON) suffered the pitching loss for St. Clair.  The Saints held a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning but gave up four in the bottom half as undefeated tournament favourite UBCO added four more in the 4th and a single in the 5th to end the game.
