Last second try sinks Lords on the road

BARRIE, ON - The Durham Lords men's rugby team fell 10-5 to the Georgian Grizzlies in their regular season finale on the road in Barrie on Saturday afternoon.

Adding another match to the growing rivalry, which has seen these two teams meet in the OCAA championship final over the last two seasons, the Lords and Grizzlies brought plenty of physical play to the final regular season match.

Durham were first on the board, jumping ahead 5-0 in the first half courtesy a try from second-year flanker Jack MacIntosh (Brooklin, ON). However, the Grizzlies were able to find an equalizer right before the half to enter the break all even 5-5.

The Lords then found themselves on the back foot for much of the second half, making a number of defensive stands near their try-line. Holding Georgian at bay for a majority of the period it wasn't until the closing seconds that the Grizzlies finally made it through to find what would eventually be the game-winning try.

Durham finish the regular season with a 2-2 record, placing them in third place in the OCAA ahead of playoff competition. DC will return to Barrie on Saturday, Nov. 6 to face the Georgian Grizzlies once again, but this time in OCAA semifinal action. Kick-off for the contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the match being streamed on OCAA LIVE.

Overall Record: 2-2 (W-L)
Conference Record: 2-2

Next match: Saturday, Nov. 6 @ Georgian Grizzlies (OCAA Semifinal - Barrie, ON)
