OSHAWA, Ont. – The No. 12 ranked Durham College men's volleyball team earned their fifth win of the season with a 3-0 sweep over the Fleming Knights.
The Knights put up a good fight in the OCAA east region matchup but could not find a way to finish off the Lords to take a set. After the Lords won the opening sets 25-22 and 25-17, it looked as if Fleming was going to take the third leading 22-16. After head coach
George Matsusaki called a time-out, Durham managed to respond and go on a run to eventually win 28-26.
Harrison Wood (Uxbridge, Ont.) played with a lot of confidence up the middle as he finished with nine kills, three blocks and two aces while his counterpart
Mike Harper (Oakville, Ont.) had seven kills and four blocks.
Bret Polfuss (Kitchener, Ont.) and
Andrew Watson (Uxbridge, Ont.) looked impressive on the outside combining for 20 kills.
John Pham (Mississauga, Ont.) tallied 38 assists in the win. Pham has had 27 or more assists in all six matches in his first season with the Lords.
Durham did a good job of containing Fleming leading scorer Erich Perau who ended up with 10 kills on 31 attacks for a .290 hitting percentage.
The Lords improve to 5-1 and sit in second place in the OCAA east region, one game behind the Georgian Grizzlies who are 6-0.
The Lords next action will be on Thursday, Nov. 24 against the George Brown Huskies (3-2).
